Q: What is the purpose of TennesseeTrash.org?

A: TennesseeTrash.org was created to raise awareness and to share information about the huge litter problem that is prevalent in the state of Tennessee. The site is owned and maintained by Byron Chesney, owner of Tennessee Trivia, Inc.

Q: Is it illegal to throw out cigarette butts from you car window?

A: Yes, according to Tennessee state law, anyone who knowingly places, drops, or throws litter on any public or private property without permission and does not immediately remove it, is committing criminal littering, which is a class A misdemeanor. See criminal littering laws here.

Q: Is Tennessee law enforcement tough on criminal litter prevention?

A: Unfortunately, no, although much lip service is performed on anti-littering and such, Tennessee law enforcement is not very strict on upholding state anti-littering laws.

Q: What is the fine in Tennessee for people that are convicted of littering?

A: For first time offenders the fine is $500.00 and 40 hours of public litter pick up. Second time offenders are fined $1500.00 and serviced to 80 hours of public litter pick up. Read the details here.

A: Yes, there is even a rewards program in place that will reward you $250.00 for the apprehension, and conviction of persons that commit criminal littering. Read the details here.

A: There are many sources for reporting litterbugs. In Tennessee you can report them to your local law enforcement agencies and/or a variety of anti-litter associations.
